What is 3x lacrosse?
The game of 3x is played only with one 3’ by 3’ lacrosse goal
Everyone plays with a regular short stick. No long-sticks. No goalie sticks. No toy or fiddle sticks.
Game ball is a tennis ball.
Three players per team on the field at once with no designated positions.
Teams are chosen by piling the six sticks together and mixing them randomly into teams of three with one’s eyes closed.
In a pick-up game, first team to score 5 goals wins.
In tournament play, open round games are 7-10 minutes long, and the team ahead at the end of regulation time is the winner. If the game is tied at the end of regulation time, then a golden goal overtime period is played and the next goal wins.
NO HARD STICK CHECKS. NO BODY CHECKS. MINIMAL CONTACT.
Check out the official 3x website for more info.
About Coach Fred
This past season, I served as the JV Coach for the Thomas Worthington High School Boys’ Lacrosse team. Before that, I coached at a few prominent clubs in Colorado, was the head coach at Lewis-Palmer High School in Monument, Colorado, and an assistant coach at Colorado College. I’ve also logged thousands of hours coaching teams and individuals as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
I do this because I love helping young athletes unlock their potential and build resilience. I also just love lacrosse—both playing and coaching—and this is a way for me to share the joy of the game while preparing players for their next season.
Outside of coaching, I’m a dad, business owner, serial entrepreneur, and a dedicated fitness and cycling enthusiast. You can learn more about what I do on this site, and if you’re curious or want to connect, I’d love to hear from you!
